Mosquitoes are a common nuisance in El Salvador, particularly in regions near bodies of water or areas with high humidity. These pesky insects thrive in warm, tropical climates and are known to carry a variety of diseases that can be harmful to humans.

Year round mosquito forecast

One of the most concerning mosquito-borne diseases in El Salvador is dengue fever. This viral illness is spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito and can cause symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, joint and muscle pain, and in severe cases, hemorrhagic fever which can be fatal if not treated promptly.

In addition to dengue fever, El Salvador also faces the threat of other mosquito-borne diseases such as Zika virus and chikungunya. These diseases can also cause fever, rash, joint pain, and other symptoms that can be debilitating for those infected. Preventative measures such as using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants, and eliminating standing water where mosquitoes breed are important in reducing the risk of mosquito bites.
